Long Bio

I first learned about the magical power of words from my mother. She taught me how to read before I ever stepped foot in school and, during summers, she took my sister and me to the library so we could check out a stack of books and experience the adventure of worlds very different from our own dusty, west Texas town.

Those years of reading instilled a love of words in me, and my love of reading later turned into a love of writing. I knew I eventually wanted to become a lawyer but didn’t know exactly how I wanted to get there. While in college, I took a required religious studies course. Little did I know that class would jump start a life-long passion for studying world religions. I ultimately earned my bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies, with minors in English and Art History. After college, I attended law school and earned my Juris Doctorate degree. For more than 16 years, I practiced civil and criminal law. I worked as a lawyer for law firms and in the Texas appellate court system, with many of my cases involving children and teens.
